I’ve been away for a week, so apologies to my lovely paying subscribers for that small hiatus. Here’s your audio version of the first danger word, and some exciting news.
First, I will be posting lots of new content for paid subscribers only.
There will be a whole set of short educational videos. I have been making these and disseminating them on LinkedIn, where they have a short shelf life but have been getting some amazing viewing figures, in the hundreds of thousands. You will have permanent access to all of them when I post them in the coming days.
I will also post a video analysing my TED talk How To Speak So That People Want To Listen (the sixth most-viewed of all time). In this 20-minute film, I and leading US speaker coach Neil Gordon set out to discover just why that talk was so successful. It includes lots of useful hints and tips for anyone who has to stand in front of an audience and speak. This gets sent to people who sign up on my website, so some of you may have seen it, but here it will be available to you permanently.
And soon I will be posting here the full set of podcasts I have made over the years on sound. They cover everything from biophilia and the future of music to silence, audio branding and soundscapes in offices, including interviews with some amazing and brilliant people, from musician Imogen Heap to cosmologist Professor Mark Whittle and human-cyborg Neil Harbisson. Watch this space and I’ll alert you as I post each one, probably once a week.
Second, I have set the date for my first live Q&A, exclusively for my paying Substack subscribers. There are 18 of you at the time of writing, so I will make this first one 30 minutes long. If you have any questions about sound, speaking or listening, please bring them! The session will be on Zoom on November 1 at 1600 UK time (1100 ECT, 0800 PCT), and requires registration in advance, which you can do by clicking on the link below this week’s audio.
Finally, a reminder that paying subscribers can claim rewards of free months that’ll arrive automatically from Substack if you refer a friend who then subscribes. If you want to help me to promote listening in the world, please do let someone else know about this publication by clicking on the button below so that they too can unlock the secrets of powerful communication.
And finally finally, here is your audio blog on danger word SHOULD!
