Hello to my paying subscribers. I have some lovely content for you.
About 10 years ago, CBS approached me to create a weekly podcast about sound. We made 22 episodes, interviewing some fascinating people along the way, including musicians like Dame Evelyn Glennie and Imogen Heap, experts on nature sound like Bernie Krause and David Rothenberg, and even a human cyborg, the extraordinary Neil Harbison. I have almost all the episodes as final masters, but I am still seeking at least two, though I may be able to reconstruct them for the original separate clips
The series explores many aspects of sound: its four effects on human beings; speaking and listening (of course); the sounds of nature and workspaces; sound in ancient history; the sound of the cosmos; the future of music and radio; how sound interrelates with the other senses; noise; the harmonic series… it was a wonderful journey making the series and in many ways it mapped the territory I have explored in my third book, which will be coming out in Spring 2025 and focuses on our relationship with sound.
As far as I’m aware, the series is unavailable anywhere now, so this will be its unique home. Its aim is to help you become a more conscious listener, enhancing your happiness, effectiveness and well-being. I hope you enjoy it.
Which brings us to episode 1, the introduction to the series, where I talk about vibration, sound, hearing and how it affects us. As with the rest of the series, this is best listened to through headphones.
